Yeo’s BEG - A Technique On How To Understand and Memorize Basic English Grammar (BEG) through acronym “I minum KHASIAT Yeos Teh Wangi AaA”

ABSTRACT

This action research was carried out for the purpose to introduce a technique on how to understand and memorize Basic English Grammar (BEG) through acronym “I minum KHASIAT Yeos Teh Wangi AaA”. It is a simple technique for the Year 4 Bitara that consists of 12 boys and 14 girls. The technique was enriched with the use of ICT knowledge and usage in making the teaching and learning of English Language more fun and enjoyable and as the same time the pupils will gained the skills of using the computers. It was consists of few interactive activities with the use of “Magic Board of Basic English Grammar”, “Yeos BEG Song” and “Fun, Learn and Enjoy with ICT (FLEict) as the three main activities. The general objective of this research was to expose a technique on how to understand and memorize the use of the Basic English Grammar (BEG) in sentences for singular and plural pronouns among Year 4 Bitara by using the ‘Yeos BEG’ technique. The specific objectives were to enhance their self-understanding about what is Basic English Grammar (BEG) and how to use it, to enhance their self-confidence of using the correct basic grammar in sentences, to increase the amount of pupils that have good grades of A, B and C in mastering the BEG in sentences and to expose the simple and easy technique to memorize the Basic English Grammar (BEG) rules. From the observation and interviews session, I found that the most weaknesses among the pupils, they do not have strong exposure the use of basic grammar in writing a sentence by referring the personal pronouns involve in the sentences. So, I believe that the appropriate technique is important for them to give the clear picture about what basic grammar is all about and how to use and connect them with the singular and plural pronouns in sentences. The pre-test had been conducted to find out the real achievement in mastery the Basic English Grammar and after introduced this technique, the pre-test result has showed the increment in percentage for the amount of pupils that getting the good results. I believe that this technique is the effective way to make the pupils understand much better and by doing this it gave the pupils the clear view how to differentiate the usage of each of parts of basic grammar in English Language sentences. The most interesting part of this research, I do really innovate one of the ICT use where I built one of MS Excel spreadsheets called Fun, Learn and Enjoy with ICT (FLEict) where I can monitor the pupils’ progress whenever they were in front of the computers during the ICT exposure class once a week. This was really helped me to know the pupils’ progress from time to time and in ensuring them to get familiar with the technique and always tried to put it in their long-term memory and as the same time the teaching and learning process became more meaningful, motivating and memorable.
